The Sanctuary of Hekate, the Witch-House, the Ark of Alalu. This strange loophole in time and space has at least as many names as it has had residents (explorers? voyagers? crew?) up and down the scales of time from the earliest beginnings to at least the end of everything.

While there are innumerable tales of those who cross the threshold of the House and either leave swiftly, or are never seen again, there are rare times where some fated few come to form a more long-lived Household, Coven or Crewe. Why are some taken in by the House when others are vomited back in to the world or outright prevented from entering? As with so much else when it comes to determining the nature of the House, it is hard to be certain, but certain commonalities have been consistent in those long term residents:

  1. The resident held a key of a design entirely unique to them.
  2. They were under threat of destruction by a power that vastly outmatched their abilities in the outside world.
  3. They were touched by magic.
  4. They held, no matter how deeply buried, an unquenchable desire to make things better.

The House offered a place of respite from the common world and the dark shadow of the supernatural that operating beyond common senses.

But there was a price to be paid…
